u r 2 good 4 me babe i mean nonnie nvr leave me pls. ♥
tony never much believed in love. as a child, he was used to seeing the way his mother looked at his father, as if he was the only man in the world, and it always confused him. how could she love howard when he was so very often an awful man that rarely paid attention to his family? because of this, his idea of love was skewed.
after his parents’ death, tony drowned his sorrows in alcohol and women. love was not something he was looking for, nor was it something he believed existed. he slept around because it felt good, and he never had to form a connection with them beyond a night spent together; once pepper was hired, she’d always take out the trash the next morning.
but when he returned from afghanistan and saw pepper again, everything changed. not only his company and outlook on life, but his outlook on love. he may not have loved pepper, per se, right away upon coming home, but as time went on he realized just how lucky he was to have her in his life; that’s when the love began to form. at this point in time, tony’s completely smitten with the woman that now runs his company, and the woman he’d trust with his life ( and coincidentally give his life for ).
their relationship began a bit rocky, but that’s mostly due to the fact that laura wasn’t exactly forthcoming with how she’d come to find him. HOWEVER, such stiffness and uncertainty quickly dissipates, and laura is accepted by both tony and pepper as if she’s their own, even though she’s nothing of the sort. after a few months, though, tony begins to develop paternal feelings for the girl, and such is quite obvious as time goes on and he tries to spoil her more and more. it’s a little over a year later that he’ll look into a possible adoption, and he’s almost afraid to ask if she’d want to become his and pepper’s; such a fear is soon proven silly.
as she grows up and threats become more and more imminent ( against them both ), they turn into a kind of team, fighting side by side but only when necessary. she’s far more capable than most people give her credit for, even tony, but he still treats her like his little girl because he can’t bear the thought of having her life lost; that death is on his hands.
